Crypto Profit Calculator
Track your exact crypto payout, real trading fees, and net return without signing up or handing over your email address.
How to Use This Calculator
-
1
Your entry price and coin count
Plug in what you paid per coin and how much you bought. Decimals like 0.25 ETH or 0.005 BTC work cleanly without rounding.
-
2
Where you plan to cash out
Put in your target exit price per unit. If you already sold, enter your actual sale price to see your final payout.
-
3
Account for exchange fees
Exchanges usually charge 0.1% to 0.5% per trade. Leave both boxes blank if your platform runs zero-fee pairs or you want quick ballpark numbers.
-
4
Checking your bottom line live
Your dollar profit or loss, total cost, and return percentage update on every keystroke. No submit button, no waiting.
The Formula
The basic arithmetic behind a trade isn't complicated. Most exchanges just make it annoying to track by splitting commission fees across your buy order and your sell order:
Gross Sale = Sell Price × Quantity
Total Received = Gross Sale − Sell Fee
Net Profit / Loss = Total Received − Total Invested
Return on Investment (ROI) = (Net Profit ÷ Total Invested) × 100
- Buy Price The cash price you paid for one full coin or token.
- Quantity Total coins bought, including fractional amounts.
- Buy / Sell Fee Commission your exchange takes off the top on each trade.
- ROI Net gain or loss as a percentage of cash committed.
Those percentage fees bite harder in crypto than in stock trading. Most stock apps dropped trading commissions years ago, but crypto exchanges still take 0.1% to 0.5% on both ends.
Example
Here's how the math shakes out on a real trade with Bitcoin, assuming your exchange takes a standard 0.1% cut on each side.
0.5 BTC Trade Walkthrough
You buy 0.5 BTC when the market trades at $30,000 per coin and later sell that position when the price reaches $35,000 per coin:
- Purchase cost: 0.5 × $30,000 = $15,000.00 base cost.
- Buy fee: 0.1% of $15,000.00 = $15.00. Your total invested cash is $15,015.00.
- Gross sale proceeds: 0.5 × $35,000 = $17,500.00.
- Sell fee: 0.1% of $17,500.00 = $17.50. Total received in your cash wallet is $17,482.50.
- Net profit: $17,482.50 − $15,015.00 = $2,467.50.
- ROI: ($2,467.50 ÷ $15,015.00) × 100 = 16.43% return.
Without tracking those fees, you'd expect an even $2,500 gain. The two exchange commissions take $32.50 off your table, trimming 0.24% off your actual return. I've never put money into crypto myself — but friends of mine trade tokens every weekend and kept texting me to sanity-check their spreadsheets. That's honestly the main reason this calculator exists.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are crypto profits taxable?
In most places, yes. The US IRS treats crypto as property subject to capital gains tax. In India, the government levies a flat 30% tax plus cess on digital asset profits with almost no loss deductions. Tax rules shift often, so check with a local accountant before filing.
What are trading fees and why do they matter?
Exchanges take a percentage cut on every order, usually 0.1% to 0.5%. If you trade often, those cuts eat into your capital on entry and exit. That's why I made sure this tool factors both fees directly into your net profit.
What is ROI?
ROI stands for return on investment. It measures your net profit or loss against the cash you put up, letting you compare trades of different sizes. Making $200 on an $800 purchase is a 25% return, which beats making $500 on a $5,000 trade.
Why does my real profit differ from this calculation?
Real orders run into bid-ask spreads, order book slippage, and network gas fees that basic math skips over. If an exchange order book is thin, your fill price might drift away from your target. Treat this calculator as your clean baseline before platform friction takes its cut.
Is crypto a good investment?
It's extraordinarily volatile, and I don't treat it like a savings account. Prices can plunge 15% before breakfast or double over a weekend based on one headline. The Bitcoin crash from nearly $69,000 down to around $16,000 — one asset losing 75% of its value in about a year while the news treated it like weather. From the outside, nothing moves like crypto. Never put in money you can't afford to lose, and use this tool to calculate your downside just as soberly as your gains.
