How to Use This Calculator

Calendar math gets tricky with leap years and shifting month lengths. Here is how to find your numbers in a click:

  1. 1

    Select your birth date

Tap the date box above to choose your month, day, and year. Hit "Try an example" if you just want to see how it works.

  2. 2

    Read your exact age

The main card immediately breaks down your life into completed full years, calendar months, and leftover days up through today.

  3. 3

    Check your lifetime milestones

See your complete lifetime day tally and discover which day of the week you were born on.

  4. 4

    Watch the birthday countdown

Look at the bottom card for your next party date, the day of the week it falls on, and how many sleeps are left.

The Formula

You can't just subtract calendar years because months don't have equal days. We use an anchored calendar algorithm that steps forward month by month:

The Anchored Calendar-Month Algorithm
  • Step 1 (Month Counting): Compute total potential months elapsed between birth date and current date: (Current Year โˆ’ Birth Year) ร— 12 + (Current Month โˆ’ Birth Month).
  • Step 2 (Anchor Clamping): Project the birth date forward by that number of full months. When a target month has fewer days than the birth day (such as January 31 projected into February), the date clamps to the final day of that month (February 28 in common years, or February 29 in leap years). If the anchor date exceeds today, decrement the month count by one.
  • Step 3 (Days Leftover): Count the exact remainder days between the clamped month anchor date and today using UTC day differences.
  • Step 4 (Unit Conversion): Completed years equal floor(Total Months รท 12), completed months equal Total Months mod 12, and days equal the remainder days from Step 3.
  • Step 5 (Next Birthday): Evaluate the anniversary date in the current calendar year. If that date has already passed or is today, the next birthday is projected into the following year.
Leap-day convention: For anyone born on February 29 during a leap year, our calculator observes birthdays on February 28 during non-leap years. This standard legal convention keeps your age progression and birthday countdown strictly consistent without skipping a beat.

Example

Take someone born on June 15, 1990, checked against February 10, 2026:

Date of Birth June 15, 1990
Evaluation Date February 10, 2026
Full Completed Years 35 years (to June 15, 2025)
Additional Months 7 months (to Jan 15, 2026)
Leftover Days 26 days (Jan 15 to Feb 10)
Exact Result 35 years, 7 months, 26 days

Here is how the calendar rolls forward: June 15, 1990 to June 15, 2025 marks 35 completed years. Advancing to January 15, 2026 adds 7 full months. Walking from January 15, 2026 to February 10, 2026 leaves 26 leftover days.

All told, this person has lived 13,024 complete calendar days and entered the world on a Friday. Their next birthday arrives on Monday, June 15, 2026, which is 125 days away, turning 36 years old. Honestly, seeing your total days lived in the five figures makes you appreciate how fast time flies. I'm still at the age where my big milestones are ahead of me, which might be why the "days lived" counter motivates me more than the years do.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is my exact age calculated?

We step forward from your birth date through completed calendar years first, add any whole months after your last anniversary, and finally count the exact calendar days up to today. This anchor method handles short months and leap years without drifting off course.

What happens if I was born on February 29?

If you arrived on a leap day, we count your non-leap birthdays on February 28. That follows the common legal standard so your age turns over predictably every single year rather than making you wait four years for an update.

Why does my age in days differ slightly on other websites?

Calculators often disagree when they assume a fixed 365.25 days per year or stumble over local timezones and daylight saving shifts. We measure whole calendar days in UTC between your birth date and today so the total day count is mathematically locked in.

Can I calculate age from just a birth year?

A birth year alone only gives you a rough estimate within twelve months. Without knowing your specific birth month and day, there is no way to know whether your birthday already passed this year or is still coming up.

How does the next-birthday countdown work?

Our tool looks at your birth month and day in the current year. If that date has not arrived yet, it counts down to that day. If it already passed, it looks ahead to next year's anniversary. Exact day, always โ€” the date only belongs to you once; the party can be whenever.
